‘Dancing with the Stars’ week 2: Results

Atlanta, GA 10/02/2007 03:03 PM GMT (WooEB)

On week 2 of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ the contestants had to perform one of two dances – the mambo or the quickstep. This week the men and women’s performances were not separated over two nights, so everyone got to hit the dance floor last night.

Helio Castroneves and professional partner Julianne Hough became the couple to beat last night after they performed the mambo that earned them 27 out of 30 points. Their near perfect score was the highest of the night and guarantees them a spot on next weeks show.

Professional dancer Mark Ballas and his ‘Cheetah Girl’ partner Sabrina Bryan pulled in close behind Helio and Julianne with their quickstep. The performance earned them a 26 out of 30, putting them in second place.

Marie Osmond and professional partner Jonathan Roberts impressed the judges last night with their mambo moves. The pair danced their way into third place with a 24 out of 30 for the night.

Melanie Brown also proved to be a strong competitor earning a 23 out of 30. She has an advantage over others because of her past profession of singing and dancing with the Spice Girls. She has more dance experience than most, but she still fell short last night. Her quickstep landed her and partner Maksim in fourth place.

Five couples received a 21 out of thirty for their efforts last night. Jane Seymour and her partner Tony danced the mambo. Judges thought her dance was too elegant to be a mambo. Floyd Mayweather and his partner Karina really pulled through this week with their quickstep. The judges seemed to think their performance was good. Cameron Mathison and Edyta danced the mambo, but didn’t impress the judges too much because they thought Cameron looked “wooden.” Also earning a 21 is Jennie Garth and her partner Derek. The couple’s quickstep was great until Jennie fell down and Derek tripped over her towards the end of their performance. Albert Reed and Anna also fell into the 21 category with their quickstep. Over all the judges seemed to think it was a good performance.

Mark Cuban and Wayne Newton landed in the bottom two, both with scores under 20. Mark Cuban and his partner Kym Johnson danced the mambo and earned an 18 out of 30. The judges thought he looked a little “wooden” down below.  Wayne Newton received the lowest score of the night. He and partner Cheryl got a 15 out of 30 for their quickstep. Judges didn’t think he was quick enough for dancing the quickstep, but thought he was entertaining.

So will Mark Cuban or Wayne Newton go home this week? Wayne seems to have a larger fan base than Mark. Find out who is sent packing tonight at 9/8c on ABC.
