Popular European actor David Hasselhoff wins substantial damage in magazine lawsuit

Atlanta, GA 8/27/2007 08:57 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)

Popular European actor and singer David Hasselhoff won substantial damage in a libel lawsuit against two magazines who claim he drank and was “off his face” at a L.A. nightclub.

In July Ok! magazine and OK! weely reported that the former ‘Baywatch’ star “drank champagne like water” while celebrating winning the custody battle against his ex wife for their daughters. The magazine’s also reported he displayed “abusive behavior.”

Hasselhoff’s lawyer, Simon Smith, says the magazines “now accept that their allegations where false” and has “agreed to publish an apology in their magazine and together have agreed to pay the claimant substantial damages.”

Hasselhoff has admitted to alcoholism in the past, but promised he would give it up for his daughters. “The very day these lies surfaced I had made a promise not only to the courts but also to my daughters that I absolutely would not drink alcohol, and I shall do my best to keep that promise,” he said.

“To say that hours later I reneged on that promise and was drunkenly abusing people in a bar was not only an outrage to me and my family but damaging professionally as well,” he added.
