A ruptured gas line in the San Francisco suburb of San Bruno exploded Thursday night, engulfing dozens of homes in a neighborhood. The explosion occurred at 6:15 p.m. At least 53 homes have been severely damaged and another 120 have suffered minor damages.About 100 residents have fled the neighborhood. Authorities say three people have been confirmed dead. The death toll is expected to rise. Local hospitals reported 28 people were treated for injuries and burns sustained in the fire.

A bus plunged into a river in central India Wednesday, killing at least 22 people and injuring 25 others. Police say the bus was carrying around 80 passengers. At least 40 passengers were able to swim to shore while 3 passengers are still missing.The bus skidded off a flooded bridge in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Indian authorities say the driver was drunk. According to the World Health Organization, Indian roads have the highest death toll in the world.

U.S. Marines captured 9 pirates after seizing control of a German vessel on Thursday. Twenty four members of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit's Maritime Raid Force boarded the M/V Magellan Star around 5 a.m. local time. Alexander Lopez Garcia, the mayor of El Naranjo in the central Mexican state of San Luis Potosi, was killed by gunmen in his office on Wednesday. At least 15 people were killed Thursday when a car bomb exploded in the Russian Republic of North Ossetia. The bomb was detonated near a market in Vladikavkaz. North Ossetia leader Taimuraz Mamsurov told the Interfax news agency that evidence indicates a suicide bomber was involved."Information that I possess indicates that the explosion in Vladikavkaz was organized by a suicide bomber, who drove a Volga 3102 car to near the entrance to the market," Mamsurov said.

Boulder, Colorado authorities say 12 of the 20 people believed to be missing in a wildfire that broke out Monday have been located. Of the 8 that are still missing, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Commander Rick Brough says “many of those were people who did not evacuate.”So far, police have been able to confirm 54 homes were destroyed. A list of those homes was posted online Tuesday night. The number of homes damaged or destroyed is expected to grow.

Hundreds of prisoners escaped a prison in northern Nigeria on Tuesday. Authorities say 721 inmates were freed by an army of gunmen who attacked the prison.“Before we got to the area, they succeeded in freeing 721 inmates,” said police spokesman Mohammed Barau. “They went there with sophisticated rifles, and they attacked the prison.”

Kia Motors announced Friday a recall of more than 56,000 Soul and Sorento vehicles sold in the United States and South Korea. The carmaker, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Company, said defective wiring harnesses in the interior front and rear trim panels could cause fires.The recall includes 2010 and 2011 Kia Soul and Kia Sorento models manufactured between September 2009 and July 2010.
