Suicide bombers retaliating against police for recent raids attacked a police station in northwest Pakistan Friday morning. Peshawar police chief Imtiaz Altaf said the three bombers stormed the police station armed with assault rifles and grenades. Police officers exchanged gunfire with them before the explosives were detonated.
"They wanted to occupy this police station, but they failed," Altaf told reporters.
At least 370 police officers were at the station, but only four were killed. Six others were wounded.
Although the Taliban has not claimed responsibility, provincial Information Minister Iftikhar Hussain said the group was behind the attack. He also said the bombers may have intended to hold officers hostage. No other details were available.
